How much will it cost to build per square metre?
Who handles building plan submissions and approvals — you or the architect?
How long does municipal or estate approval take in Mpumalanga?
What documentation do I need before building can start?
Are you NHBRC registered (and what does that mean)?
How long will it take to build my home from start to finish?
How long a home takes to build depends on many factors. After we review your plans and design, we can give you an estimated timeline, keeping in mind that unexpected events can sometimes occur.
How often will I receive progress updates?
What happens if there are delays — due to weather, supply issues, or approvals?
We do our best to manage any delays as they arise, though some factors may be beyond our control. Where possible, we suggest alternative actions or decisions to prevent delays. With our experience in the industry, we can often anticipate potential issues and make the necessary provisions in advance.
When should I start planning with an architect or designer?
We always recommend starting the planning process with an architect or designer as early as possible. It’s far easier — and more effective — to make key design decisions upfront than to change plans later. Early planning also keeps the building process running smoothly, avoids costly changes and prevents delays caused by last-minute choices on finishes and design details.
What kind of materials and finishes do you use?
All materials and finishes are selected by the architect and client, giving you the freedom to choose the quality, cost, and style that best reflect your vision. Mackay Project Management is there to support, advise, and guide you every step of the way. With our experience and industry knowledge, we add value to your decision-making process.
How do you ensure quality control on-site?
We’ve built strong, long-term relationships with a team of skilled builders who understand our standards and values. Our project managers are on-site every day to ensure quality, attention to detail, and smooth communication.
Do you use subcontractors, and how do you choose them?
We work with carefully chosen external contractors who are experts in their trades and who we know deliver exceptional results. Quality control is central to how we manage every project.
How do you handle clients who live overseas or can’t visit the site often?
We’ve worked with many overseas clients across the globe who have trusted us to build their homes while managing the entire process remotely. Through regular video updates, progress photos, virtual meetings, detailed planning and finishing schedules, and 3D renders, we ensure our clients feel fully involved every step of the way.
Can all documentation and payments be handled remotely?
Yes. We will guide you through every step of the process so that it is as stress free and seamless as possible.
How do you ensure security and transparency while we’re not in the country?
All costs, procedures, and plans are discussed and agreed on from the start, ensuring a smooth process with complete transparency.
What systems do you use to share updates, photos, or progress reports?
In addition to emails, phone calls, and planning schedules, we find that a WhatsApp group including all contractors and team members is the quickest and most efficient way to communicate.
Can I make design changes once building has started?
Yes, but it’s always better to plan ahead to minimise delays and costly changes. That said, we understand that once construction begins, unforeseen elements can arise that may require adjustments to the design.
Can you work with my chosen architect, or do you have preferred partners?
While we have trusted partners we’ve worked with for years, you’re free to select any architect you prefer.
Are specific estate guidelines always incorporated in the architectural guidelines?
Yes, all plans will comply — even if you use your own architect. We pay close attention to these requirements, and Mackay Projects will provide you with the necessary guidelines specific to the estate you’re building in.
